Suport Women Scientists Saving Endangered Wildlife

Dear Donors, 

We are tremendously grateful for your support of this project, Support Women Scientists Saving Endangered Wildlife, and we are thrilled to share our most recent updates with you. This year, we selected three young women scientists, each researching herpetology (the study of amphibians)in the megadiverse rainforests of Colombia. 

These three young women each received grants which cover transportation, food, lodging, and equipment involved in their research projects, providing pivotal support to the accomplishment of their projects and allowing them to focus on learning rather than on logistics. 

These grants are groundbreaking in the world of science — there are typically few resources available to South American scientists, and even fewer available to women scientists. This is why we created this grant, which we could not have achieved without you. We want to ensure that everyone has an equal chance to get involved in science, because that is how we can create equitable solutions to the world’s most pressing climate and biodiversity issues.

We’re thrilled to bring you an incredible update from our project, Support Women Scientists Saving Endangered Wildlife! Right now, we are in the exciting process of interviewing candidates for our next five Women Scientist Scholarships—and we couldn’t have gotten here without YOU.

These scholarships are game changers. They don’t just help women overcome barriers to pursue groundbreaking research; they also allow us to develop targeted conservation strategies for some of the world’s most endangered species. This year’s focus? One of Colombia’s most iconic and critically endangered birds: the Blue-billed Curassow (Crax alberti). With tiny, fragmented populations, this bird is teetering on the brink of extinction—and urgent research is vital to ensure its survival.

The new round of scholarships will support:
3 research projects focused on endemic and/or threatened bird species.
1 project dedicated to estimating the population of the Blue-billed Curassow.
1 project focused on studying the incredible herpetofauna diversity within our El Paujil Reserve.

Thanks to your donations, each scholarship provides critical resources like transportation, accommodation, and research funding, while also giving these brilliant women a platform to publish their findings and lead community conservation workshops—helping to weave science, education, and action together.

We are beyond excited to soon announce the next class of women scientists who will lead the charge in Colombia’s biodiversity hotspots. These women are not just researchers—they are the future of conservation.
