Sustaining a Training Centre for Poor girls

By Azeem Christopher | Project Leader

Anita, a young woman from a poor neighborhood in rural Faisalabad, had always dreamt of supporting her family, but poverty kept closing doors. Her father, a daily wage laborer, struggled to provide for their large household, and Anita often felt helpless as she watched her parents make ends meet with difficulty. With no opportunity for higher education and no skills to earn a living, her future seemed uncertain.

That changed when Anita learned about the Beautification Course offered at AWARD’s Women Resource Centre. With determination in her heart and support from her family, she enrolled in the course. Over the next few months, Anita learned essential beauty skills—facial treatments, makeup, hair styling, and customer service—through practical, hands-on training from experienced instructors.

Today, Anita proudly offers beauty services from a small setup at her home, receiving regular clients from her community. Her income, though modest, has brought relief to her family and dignity to her own life. No longer dependent or uncertain, Anita now dreams of opening her own beauty salon one day.

AWARD’s initiative didn’t just give her a skill—it gave her confidence, purpose, and the ability to share her family’s burden. Anita is now a symbol of hope for many young women in her community.

Anita is a story of determation and a success from AWARD Women Resource Centre. We Thank you for your donations of USD 6087, which are helping young girls from poor and marginalized backgrounds get trained in diversified skills. AWARD Pakistan has initiated several income generation courses (make-up art, industrial stitching, mobile repair for girls, and computer basics), which have been started in its resource center in Faisalabad. AWARD has also initiated a course foryoung women to get trained in bike riding, as this initiative is a step towards independence. So far, 390 girls have been trained through the center and have entered the earning circle. AWARD wishes to continue making success stories.

As more and more girls are getting enrolled in our courses, AWARD needs an extension in its building as it needs to build a training hall (for a capacity of 40 people) to train marginalized, school dropouts, and unskilled girls of Faisalabad in new trades.AWARD requires another USD 18,000 for this need.

We would like to request that the GlobalGiving community support us in its completion to achieve our target of supporting 400 poor women and girls every year.
