In Warispura, Faisalabad, many women and girls face social and economic barriers that limit their access to education, employment, and financial independence. Through its Women's Empowerment and Vocational Skills Development Project, AWARD Pakistan is creating opportunities for marginalized women to develop practical skills, increase their confidence, and build sustainable livelihoods.
During this reporting period, 120 women and girls completed vocational training in a range of marketable skills. Forty-eight participants completed beauty skills training, and 20 are now providing home-based beauty services within their communities. Eighteen women received stitching training, with 10 already earning an income or operating small tailoring businesses. 12 participants completed computer literacy training, enabling five to secure freelance work and begin earning online. In addition, 42 women completed bike riding training, with 30 reporting greater mobility, independence, and confidence in their daily lives.
To celebrate their achievements, participants took part in a recreational trip that encouraged teamwork and personal growth. This was followed by end-of-course assessments and a certificate distribution ceremony recognizing their commitment and successful completion of the training. A breast cancer awareness session was also organized, equipping women with essential knowledge about early detection, prevention, and overall health.
The enthusiasm shown by participants has encouraged many more women from Warispura and surrounding communities to apply for the next training cycle. AWARD Pakistan is preparing to enroll a new batch, ensuring that more women can access life-changing skills and economic opportunities.
To meet this growing demand, the construction of the vocational training centre remains a top priority. An additional USD 13,793 is needed to complete the facility, including a residential hostel for women travelling from distant rural areas who lack access to safe accommodation. This hostel will ensure that school dropouts and underserved women can participate in training without barriers.
With the continued support of GlobalGiving donors, AWARD Pakistan can complete this centre and expand opportunities for hundreds more women. Every contribution helps provide skills, confidence, and pathways to financial independence, empowering women to transform not only their own lives but also the future of their families and communities.
