Summary

Political instability and human demand for rhino horn led to increased poaching and the annihilation of this species. Today, there are just two northern white rhinos remaining in the world, Najin and Fatu - mother and daughter. They live on Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya and are protected by armed guards 24/7. We - humans - are responsible. However, there is hope. We have embarked on a ground-breaking program to save this species and are inviting you to join us.

Challenge

The survival of Najin and Fatu is crucial to the success of this project, and ensuring the species can be brought back from the brink of extinction. Compromised revenue streams, as a result of socio-economic fallout of the global pandemic threatens our ability to sustain operations and secure their safety. This project will directly impact the conservation and protection of Najin and Fatu for the sustained efforts around saving this species.

Solution

From eggs collected from Najin and Fatu in the last four years, we have created 30 northern white rhino embryos which will be introduced into southern white rhino surrogates. Your support is desperately needed for ranger salaries, regular training and equipment, alongside veterinary supplies and wildlife monitoring technology which are essential to safeguarding the last two northern white rhinos.

Long-Term Impact

By donating today, you could help save a species. With 30 northern white rhino embryos created, the team have selected two suitable southern white rhino surrogates and teaser bull, who have been moved into a 45-acre enclosure where they are being closely monitored for the processes required for successful embryo implementation. It is hoped these embryos will be the foundation of a new NWR population, eventually destined to step back into their ecological role as keystone grazers in Africa.
