Hands On Tokyo Youth Impact Spring 2020 Report

Youth Volunteers at our community projects

First of all, we want to thank our donors and supporters of the Youth Impact program.

Since our last report we have been establishing strong groups/clubs to represent each school we work with, as well as reach out to new schools. Also, we have been busy holding discussions with high school and college students to promote volunteerism and encourage them to lead volunteer projects.

Some examples of these discussion events are round-table style meetings, school presentations, and even networking mixers.

In addition to high school and college we have also added a new post graduate volunteer group to involve the young professional Youth Impact members and volunteers.

As you may know, right now, much of Asia and many parts of the world are reeling from the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak. The reality is that, Youth Impact, and the Hands on Tokyo organization are not immune to this situation. So, to take precautions against the spread of the virus, and to keep those we serve and our volunteers safe we are suspending our face-to-face projects until the situation is deemed safe.

In the meantime, we are working on creative solutions to this problem. For example, we are thinking of ways to serve our community while also ensuring that we are not contributing to the possible spread of the virus. The safety of the community we serve as well as our volunteers is absolutely paramount.

In addition to this current situation, we are planning for the time when the situation is deemed safe and Youth Impact activities can go on as normal.

Currently, our members are brainstorming/planning youth led projects like:

  • Beach Cleanup
  • Youth fundraising mixer
  • Creating University accessibility maps for disabled people
  • Youth charity concert

We are sending thoughts out to all those who have been affected by, or are vulnerable to the COVID-19 outbreak. We are hoping for a swift and steadfast de-escalation of the what could turn into a possible pandemic. We are also letting all our community partners, and amazing volunteers know that we care about them in this trying time.

All of the work we do would not be possible without the support from you, our donors. Through your generosity we will empower even more of the youth, and together continue to make a difference in our community!

We wish everyone safety and health during the current COVID-19 outbreak.
