Summary

Childbirth should never be a life-or-death moment, yet for displaced women it often is. This project will provide 700 Safe Birth Kits to pregnant women in IDP camps, where clean delivery supplies are scarce. By equipping mothers with sterile, lifesaving materials, the project will reduce preventable infections and deaths during childbirth, ensuring safer deliveries in crisis settings where access to healthcare is limited.

Challenge

Every day, pregnant women in IDP camps give birth in unsafe, unhygienic conditions. Overcrowding, poor sanitation, and limited health services force many women to deliver at home or in temporary shelters using unsterilized tools. These conditions lead to infections such as sepsis and umbilical cord complications, which are major causes of maternal and newborn deaths-tragedies that can be prevented with simple, affordable clean delivery supplies.

Solution

A simple kit can mean the difference between life and death. This project will distribute 700 Safe Birth Kits containing a sterile blade, cord clamp, plastic sheet, soap, and gloves. Working with camp leaders and health volunteers, kits will reach the most vulnerable pregnant women. Each recipient will receive brief guidance on clean delivery practices, ensuring the kits are used effectively to prevent infection.

Long-Term Impact

One safe birth creates a ripple of survival and hope. This project will immediately make 700 births safer, reducing infections and preventable maternal and newborn deaths in IDP camps. Beyond immediate impact, it promotes awareness of hygienic childbirth practices within families and communities. Healthier mothers and babies strengthen displaced households and contribute to long-term resilience and improved maternal health outcomes in crisis-affected areas.
