Progress Report of "Zakat Can Empower Poor Parents in Bangladesh" Project of GlobalGiving

 Period: January-March,2024

Dear Friends,

Dakbhanga Bangladesh (DBD) has been operating two primary schools in the remote Ramu sub-district of Cox's Bazar district, Bangladesh, since 1998 as part of a primary education project for underprivileged children, thanks to generous contributors like you. The project students receive ECD to Grade V education at schools and with limited support for their secondary and postsecondary education.

Zakat project has been helping DBD's impoverished school-age children of the These projects rely on the collection of Zakat from potential contributors both locally including the staff of Dakbhanga Bangladesh Education Project & friends from abroad.The project's objective is to improve the socioeconomic standing of low-income families whose children enrolled in our project schools.

We are commited to assist low income families of our project funded program areas so that they can enable their children to finish the primary school cycle and pursue their education until the age of 18. However, in order to sustain the activities, Dakbhanga has limited resources, so the parents need the support of enthusiastic members of the global humanitarian community. We are now covered seven out of selected 35 families’ in the isolated hilly areas of Ramu,Cox's Bazar, that were chosen for the support.Six families received goats from Dakbhanga who rearing the goats so they could increase their family income and help their school-aged children to continue their study. We supported another one poor family with assistive device (wheel chair) who have 2 physically disabled children. So you may explore the alarming coveraze is 7 out of 35 families (20%) due to fund scarcity. I like to mention that we have a few local commitment for the project too.

Dakbhanga Bangladesh (DBD) is required to allocate the Zakat support budget to the chosen school community of 2 Primary School linked with two feeder school with ECD support while maintaining proper control and documentation. We are searching for new contributors who will consistently donate Zakat in order to support worthy parents in fulfilling their goal of supporting their children's education upto a certain secured level for building their future with hope of better living.
