Accessibility for All in Egypt!

Dear Alhassan donors, supporters and believers,

One of the biggest challenges facing the permanent user of a wheelchair is the lack of accessibility in their homes and schools that prevent them from carry out their daily activities in a normal manner.

“Accessibility for All” helps wheelchair users to overcome the challenges they face practicing their daily activities like going to their schools, workplaces or running their errands independently due to lack of accessibility.

This project aims to offer services like accessible rides and remodeling homes, schools and public places to be wheelchair-friendly to achieve inclusion and to enable wheelers to have equal opportunities in work, education, sports, etc

Asmaa’s Story… A New Beginning at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Kafr El Sheikh University

Asmaa, 38, is a student at the Faculty of Al-Alsun at Kafr El Sheikh University. Years ago, her life changed dramatically after a serious accident when she fell from a balcony. The fall caused fractures in the sixth and seventh vertebrae of her spine, resulting in hemiplegia. It was a difficult turning point that brought many challenges, but Asmaa never lost her determination or her dream of continuing her education.

Despite these challenges, Asmaa insisted on pursuing her university studies. She firmly believes that education is a right for everyone and that disability should never be a barrier to achieving one’s dreams. When she joined the Faculty of Al-Alsun, having an accessible educational environment became essential for her to move around campus and reach her classes with ease.

In support of students like Asmaa, Alhassan Foundation worked on improving accessibility at the Faculty of Al-Alsun at Kafr El Sheikh University. This step aimed to create a more inclusive educational environment for students with disabilities and wheelchair users, ensuring better access within the university campus.

Today, Asmaa continues her academic journey with confidence and determination. Her story is not only about a university student pursuing her education, but also a powerful reminder that accessibility is the first step toward empowerment, and that education should be available to everyone.

This project aims to offer services like accessible rides and remodeling homes, schools and public places to be wheelchair-friendly to achieve inclusion and to enable wheelers to have equal opportunities in work, education, sports, etc. Adel, 35 years old, from Al-Tawabiya in Qena, has faced a lot of challenges bigger than his age. As a child, he was diagnosed with polio in his left leg — and in Upper Egypt, that is a major obstacle. Life was tough, responsibilities were heavier than usual, and being independent required real courage before anything else. Despite all that, Adel refused to give up. He tried many jobs, fell down, struggled, but always stood back up. Until he finally managed to open a small sandwich booth, turning his daily effort into a steady source of income. Every day, he stands for hours in front of his booth with determination that earns the respect of anyone who sees him. Along his journey, Alhassan Foundation stood by him, providing him with a motorcycle that made moving around much easier. It opened the door to more comfort and gave him the opportunity to continue his work with stability and confidence. Adel is a true example of a hardworking son of Upper Egypt — a man who, no matter how hard the challenges get, keeps standing and keeps going. Because real strength is in getting back up… not in never falling.
