GlobalGiving's Little by Little Campaign will match donations up to $50 by 50% from April 8 ~ April 12
Our Aids Patient Family Support Program has operated without interruption for 25 years. During this period of time our progam and its participants have evolved. Initially, we served homeless women and their children who had been abandoned by family and who were struggling to survive on the streets of Phnom Penh. In the early years we lost about 70% of our women ( mothers) each year, leaving many orphaned children to support. Over the many years, with the introduction of an effective drug regimine for AIDs, our role changed. We provided subsistance support to keep families from becoming homeless, keeping kids in school and with somewhat improved health, we strongly encouraged our moms to work - market stalls, street vendors, cleaners and even some garment factory workers. We provided the " extra" that enabled them to live in extremely modest, but dignifed circumstances with kids in school and enough to eat. As time passed, kids grew up and with education could help support mom or grandma and a new phase began. We shrank our program to the point where only the truly destitute remained, those who had no other means of support.
We continue to operate our program on a maintenance only basis. that means that we cannot accept any new patient and, wherever possible, we look to transition the patients out of our program who we view to have recovered enough of their health and stamina to be able to support and care for themselves. At the end of 2023, facing possible dire financial shorfall heading into the new year, we transitioned three women out of our porgram because they had limited family support available to them. We are currently supporting a total of 18 adult women and 10 children at an average monthly total expense for everyone of about $2,200.
The folks who remain in our program, literally have no where to go and no where to turn. Without our support they would be on the street, trying to survive and just get some food, an existence which would be a cruel and lenghty death sentance.
Because of you , we are able to continue to offer compssionate support to help them to live and die in simple dignity rather than face the crisis of street living and a death alone.
Your support for this program makes a difficult situation for these folks a bit more bearable. We are hopeful that you will consider whether you can make an extra $ 50 donation during the Little by Little Campaign fro April 8 ~ 12 and receive an extra 50% match.
We hope that you will join us in offering this great kindness to our patient family.
Thank you,
Barbara & Mark Rosasco
