Philippines Cebu Earthquake

A powerful 6.9magnitude earthquake struck near Bogo City in northern Cebu, in the Visayas region of the Philippines, on September 30, 2025. The quake collapsed buildings, damaged roads, triggered landslides and power outages and resulted in at least 76 deaths. Hospitals in the worst-hit zones, including Bogo City, were overwhelmed in the immediate aftermath and rescue efforts were complicated by aftershocks, landslides, rain and blocked roads.

Americares Philippines is responding, providing health centers and survivors with essential medicine, medical staff, psychological services, hygiene supplies and clean water.

In the first three weeks after the disaster, Americares medical teams have provided medical consultations to hundreds of survivors, including mental health and psychosocial support to over 500 children and psychological first aid to health care providers. For survivors living outside their damaged and unsafe homes, Americares has provided tents and distributed clean water, hygiene kits, tarps and water containers. Americares Philippines also provided surge medical staff to support the Bogo City Health Center as well as a tent and generator to increase access to health services. In all, Americares has supported six health centers throughout the affected region.

Americares will continue to support health needs throughout the area, including coordinating additional shipments of medicine and supplies and addressing mental health, water and hygiene needs.

At the same time,Americares Philippines continues to respond to the health impacts of Super Typhoon Ragasa, which struck the Philippines on Sept. 22 and the earthquake that struck in the Mindanao region of the Philippines on Oct. 9.

Philippines Mindanao Earthquake

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake shook the southern Philippines on October 9, 2025, striking off the coast of Davao Oriental province. In response, local officials set up tsunami alerts and evacuations. Initial reports indicated over 480,000 people were displaced and more than 880,000 people were in need of assistance. Authorities issued tsunami warnings for nearby coastal provinces and parts of Indonesia, though alerts were later lifted, and aftershocks have been recorded in the region.

In response, Americares Philippines deployed a team to provide immediate assistance to survivors, including mental health support, hygiene kits, water containers and tarps that can be used for temporary shelter. The team is providing mental health and psychosocial support to children and psychological first aid to staff at the Manay Provincial Hospital. The emergency response team will also be delivering medicines, medical supplies and tents to two health facilities in the affected communities to help restore access to care.
