Changing my future

By Rina Lazo | Director of Benefactor Services

The girl is originally from San Salvador, El Salvador. She lived throughout her life in that country, until the death of her mother, which was in 2016. The mother died of cancer of the womb, which, this was not detected in a timely manner, and was proliferated by the body, which caused his death at the end. The girl because of her orphanage, was guarded by the biological father, who had not lived with them for many years and had never been responsible for them, however, was the only family to whom the authorities could deliver the girl. The father, was an alcoholic person, with problems of drug addiction and belongs to a band of criminals called "maras Salvatruchas", with which, this from the beginning, was the worst possible influence for the girl, an immoral and toxic environment in her whole. After a few months, the maternal aunt, decided to fight in her country for the custody of the girl, and when the authorities corroborated that the father was a person in conflict with the law, decided to take the girl and give it to the maternal aunt. However, the father was not going to settle for just losing the girl, he tried by means of intimidation and blackmail of all kinds, death threats, trying to persuade the intentions of the maternal aunt, who in the end, had to flee the country by your safety, not without first, taking the child with you, through the corresponding legal procedures.

The girl says that during the short time she was with the father, she watched as he got drunk, went in with other people to get high and heard "strange noises" in the room where the father had sexual relations with women, but the girl did not He interpreted the reality that lived by his innocence. She also stated that when the father talked to her, he asked her if she wanted to "accompany" the father's friends, and she, out of fear, said no, to what the father beat and verbally mistreated her.

The aunt currently has the child's parental authority and in 2018, she sought help in Guatemala, where she is a refugee and has the support of people who are known and trusted by her, she was referred to Our Ahijados project, where the girl was received, was given academic, psychological and medical support and now has the necessary protection and support for a growth and formation free of negative influences, with the aim that the girl finishes her primary stage and I still finished the rest of his academic studies.
