Max dreams of helping others when he grows up!

By Melissa Schroden | Director of Special Opportunities and Donations

Meet Max!
Meet Max!

Meet Max!

He is from San Juan Alotenango, Sacatepequez. His family is very poor, as they are supported solely by his mother. His biological father left him and his mother a number of years ago because he felt that the economic circumstances were too much for him to deal with.

Since he left Max´s mother has worked any form of job she can find because she doesn´t have the academic qualifications or work experience to land a well paid full time job. Therefore many of the jobs that she finds are low pay, and instable hours. She is fortunate to receive a little help from her brothers at times, however as they too have their own families, this help is only available sometimes when they too have a little money to spare. Most commonly this support is in the form of food that the brother’s wives cook and bring to Max´s home to share.

Max´s mother decided to seek help for her son, someplace where he would be able to attend school. She knows all too well the importance of a good education, and the limitations that are put on a person who does not have the proper education. She says, “I feared I wouldn´t have the money necessary for Max´s education or really to provide him with a good childhood.”

Through her neighbors she received information about The GOD´S CHILD Project and the programs that we offer to the children, mothers, and families that belong to our programs. Cecila was especially interested in getting Max a good education and possibly having a home built to help protect them from the weather and danger of living in her poorly constructed home.

The GOD´S CHILD Project intervened immediately with a social work visit, quickly realizing the severity of their poverty, their home life circumstances, and their family´s need for assistance.

We are proud to say that Max is currently studying at the Dreamer Center and receiving all of the benefits offered to our children and families including: school supplies, food, a comprehensive education, and a house which was built for him and his mother to live in with dignity.

Thanks to the services of The GOD´S CHILD Project, Max has many new found hopes and dreams for a better life. He dreams of becoming a professional businessman and help his mother and other families combat poverty, so that future children don´t have to grow up and suffer the same life that he has.

Our teachers work hard every day to give Max and all the other students at the Dreamer Center a comprehensive education that instills strong values, morals, and faith in what the future holds for each of them. Through providing them a place where they are nurtured, cared for, and educated we are breaking the chains of poverty one child at a time. Please help us foster more dreams, educate more children, and change more lives one at a time, just like Max.
