Case study
Mr. Ashok (Name changed)

Mr. Ashok, a 26 years old male who hailed from village Amte in Belagavi district in Karnataka met with an accident on July 18, 2022. He sustained severe head injury and became unconscious. He was immediately taken to Vijay Hospital for treatment. He was then shifted to KLE hospital for further management. Despite several attempts to revive Mr. Ashok, the brain death committee at KLE's Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Belagavi declared him brain dead on July 19, 2022.
Ms. Sheetal, MF’s Transplant Coordinator (TC) placed at KLE hospital, was immediately contacted to counsel the grieving family. The family was grieving the loss of their loved one and had not accepted his death. The situation was grim and family unapproachable, so TC decided to approach the Sarpanch of the village and motivate him to speak to the family for organ donation.
After several sessions with the Sarpanch and the family, TC finally got the consent for organ donation and organ retrieval was completed on July 21, 2022. Mr. Ashok gave many people a second chance to live after his death. His heart was allocated to KLE Hospital & his liver to BGS Global Hospital, Bengaluru and both the kidneys were allocated to SDM hospital, Dharwad.
