Shashikala came to Ashwini Charitable Trust (ACT) as an eleven year old girl. Her mother worked as a janitor in a mall. Her father who passed away recently, was then bedridden. She has 2 brothers, one a school dropout and the other pursuing distance education in order to support the family. Shashikala had a zeal to succeed, she just needed a sponsor to pay her college fees.
Thanks to the funds raised by Ashwini Charitable Trust Shashikala was able to go to college. She worked very hard on her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Application, secured 86% and was placed second in St. Joseph's College of ARTS and Science. As part of her overall development she was groomed to make presentations and interact with people from various walks of life . She was also invited by corporates to address their gathering at one of the Taj group of Hotels.
Later on Shashikala shared with us , how she was awestruck seeing the distinguished delegates who were so friendly with her.
Then one day a group of Ashwini children including Shashikala were invited to visit the Infosys Campus at Mysore for 3 days. This visit widened her horizons, she was determined to work in Infosys.
Some dreams do come true. Shashikala miraculously made it through several rounds of interviews and finally got a job at Infosys. After many decades of back breaking work Her mother no longer has to work to make both ends meet.
And today Shashikala’s dream has come true.
There are currently 250 children like Shashikala in ACT. Come join us and give wings to their dreams.
