Hello, dear Baba supporter,
We hope spring is bursting into your heart, body, and mind, offering fresh perspectives for the season ahead!
In Bulgaria, March is the month of the Martenitsa - traditional red-and-white symbols of health and renewal. We’ve just wrapped up our seasonal campaign, and while we can’t hand you one in person, we are sending a "virtual" Martenitsa to you in the attached photos. In our tradition, we wear these until we see the first stork, signaling that spring has officially arrived. Consider this our way of wishing you health and strength!
What’s blooming at Baba Residence this year?
Thanks to your generous donations via GlobalGiving, and the support of the Bulgarian Fund for Women and the Interreg Elevate project, we are stepping into 2026 with clear goals and exciting new formats.
1. The "Expert Residency": A New Chapter We are evolving! This year, we are launching the Baba Residence Expert Residency. It’s a more flexible, specialized approach across three villages: Dyulevo, Salash, and Oslen Krivodol.
The Process: We are starting with deep-dive community meetings, research, and "World Cafe" discussions to understand the villages' specific needs.
The Goal: Based on this research, we will open a call for experts who can provide targeted help to these communities.
The Network: These three villages will be linked in a new online supportive network to share wisdom and solutions.
2. A New "Babaphone" is Calling! After the success of our first Babaphone, we are thrilled to announce a second one! By the end of the year, the Vlach village of Deleyna will have its own "phone booth" where you can pick up the receiver and hear personal stories, folklore, and heritage directly from the local elders.
Keeping the links alive
In these turbulent times, your support does more than just fund a project - it keeps the intergenerational thread from breaking. It ensures that the stories of our elders aren't forgotten and that our villages remain places of possibility.
Stay tuned - in April, we’ll share the results of our first community meetings and introduce you to our newest precious partner in Dyulevo village!
Psst, last thing - more exciting news from last month: Yanina from our team, Martina Grigorova and baba Milenka Vutova from Oslen Krivodol went to the European employment and social rights forum in Brussels! What was the occasion? The beautiful socks baba Milenka makes as part of the social cooperative, part of our Baba Residence network!
Thank you for staying with us and for believing in the future of the villages.
With gratitude and spring sun,
Yoana and the Ideas Factory team
