Dear Friends,
Reading literacy is a fundamental skill that plays a critical role in shaping the economic, social, and political landscape of any country. In rural Peru, where access to education and resources is limited, reading literacy is even more essential. Illiteracy rates in rural Peru are significantly higher than in urban areas, which limits individuals' opportunities for education, employment, and economic prosperity.
By fostering reading literacy in rural Peru, individuals can acquire knowledge and skills that enable them to improve their lives and the lives of their communities. With access to reading materials and a basic understanding of how to read, individuals can gain knowledge on topics such as health, agriculture, and finance, which can help them make informed decisions and improve their overall quality of life.
In addition to its practical benefits, reading literacy can also help individuals in rural Peru develop critical thinking skills, enhance their creativity, and broaden their horizons. By reading literature and other materials, individuals can explore new ideas and perspectives, develop empathy for others, and learn to communicate effectively. This can help break down social and economic barriers, foster innovation, and promote equality.
Ultimately, promoting reading literacy in rural Peru is crucial for advancing social and economic development, empowering individuals, and creating a more just and equitable society.
Our mobile library provides access to reading materials in rural areas of Cusco. Our teachers help the children develop and learn during our regular visits to various villages. We are currently looking for more books to expand our library and to provide the children with a wider variety of reading materials. New books renew the children’s excitement in reading. We are seeing many positive aspects of the library, including the joy of reading books to improved literacy in the children.
We want to express how much gratitude we have for the generosity of our donors to allow the program to continue.
