Greetings and Gratitude from the Sacred Valley

What has fresh walls, a roof, a beautiful mountainous backdrop, and a friendly team of women ready to demonstrate heritage weaving techniques, teach you about natural dyes, feed you a delicious lunch, and share their Quechua culture?

The Puskariy Tika cooperative’s new visitor center in Huilloc!

Thanks to our partners in the Puskariy Tika Cooperative and their hard work, the group has been able to host tours and run their cooperative business in the new Huilloc visitor center.

This has made such a positive impact here and we are so excited to show off the space with you.

“We are all very happy to have this new weaving center in our village, and excited to welcome visitors,” said Paulina Quispe, a member of the cooperative. “This center is very exciting for us and will have a big impact on our lives and community. It is going to help a lot with our income. All of the partners will be able to earn money here, and have more money for their families, for things like their children’s education and going to the doctors. It’s going to help our families a lot.”

The group has begun hosting tour groups at the space and is eager to expand its work in the tourism industry through the new center. Paulina shared how the new center has shaped life in the village, and expanded horizons for the artisans as individuals and as a group.

“For us, it is very important to be able to host visitors and tours here. It has helped us a lot to interact with tourists. We're not as shy anymore about interacting with people from outside our village and culture. We used to be a lot more quiet, and reserved about expressing ourselves. This new center is going to bring more tourism to Huilloc, and help our families because we’ll have better economic opportunities and our children will grow up having more people around and exposure to different cultures.” explained Paulina.

The new center has been providing the group with easier access to these personal and economic opportunities. With each tourist visit, the artisans have a chance to learn and strengthen their skills closer to home. Because of this they are all very excited for the new tourism season to begin.

We’re so grateful to you, our donors, and to our partnerships with WECo and EF student service groups for partnering with the Puskariy Tika artisans to help them reach their business goals.

There are so many ways to participate in our tourism program as a supporter. Donations support the training we offer, and visits support the artisans' business success. Thank you for your continued support!
