News from Jugando Aprendo

By Johana Reyes | Project member

Dear GlobalGiving supporters:

It is summer time in Peru and all the children at the ludoteca Jugando Aprendo are enjoying the sun.  It is time for the school holidays until March and so there is more time to play and enjoy.

We are excited with all the news we have for you this time. Since the last time we wrote, we have started working on the tutoring sessions for the kids, the promotoras (staff) training, and the counseling sessions for the kids and their families.

It was great to be able to provide the tutoring sessions in the busiest and more difficult time of the school year in Peru. Girls and boys were doing their homework and learning with the promotoras. We bought new books and even games so that all the kids could use them at the ludoteca.

In terms of the counseling sessions, this year our psychologist has started working individually with the kids and also with their parents. They have been very supportive with this activity and are grateful they can count with a psychologist so close home.

Last but not least, it is great the work the promotoras have been doing in relation with their own training. Once a month, they are meeting with a specialist to work on improving the way they work with the children. Promotoras are learning a lot and feel more confident. Being former child domestic workers themselves, the promotoras are building their skills on practice and are increasing their committment to serve the children.

We are very happy with all the things going on and look forward to more. Thank you for making all these changes possible. We are grateful to count with supporters like you.

Kind regards,

Johana
