The Prevention Education Team at Fair Haven RCC are getting ready for a busy education season. Within a week of the students returning to school, the team are already implementing the child sexual prevention educations; Think First & Stay Safe to prek-6th grade and Teen Lures to 7-12th grade students.

The 2021-2022 school presentation calendar is quickly filling up. As I write this report, I am proud to say that we have four school districts reserving dates, finishing the 2021 calendar year! Lots of work goes into getting ready for presentations, BEFORE implementing. Busy season looks like this (per district);

  • Contacting school district administrators to discuss program.
  • Creating material packets for school administration to review, while deciding if the program is a good fit for their district.
  • Deciding the presentation format appropriate for their community and reserving dates neccesary for completion.
  • Contacting school principals to discuss scheduling presentation time slots and getting student counts per grade.
  • Scheduling a parent presentation of the program or providing a parent letter with the information, so they can give informed consent for student participation.
  • Ordering Child Lures curriculum materials; colorbooks for grades prek-2nd and workbooks for grades 3-6th. Ordering necessary Parent Guides for elementary and middle/high schooler parents.
  • Printing handouts; Fair Haven handouts that create applicable opportunities for elementary students or Teen Lures curriculum handouts for secondary students.
  • Gathering all materials per district, then per school, and sometimes per class and grade. (See pictures)
  • Reviewing curriculum components to ensure it meets school diverse needs and expectations. Modify as needed.
  • The week prior to presentations- Contacting school principals, teachers, school counselors, technical support and secretaries;
  1. To ensure everyone knows what to expect during implementation; where, when, ect.
  2. Technology needs of presenter and/or teachers; projecting PowerPoint, sound, and sometimes a virtual link.
  3. Be mindful and ready for support if students need to disclosure or if triggered by presentation.

Fair Haven RCC takes pride in providing excellent prevention education to the community. Through hard work AND donations from supporters like you, we can offer schools the materials to ensure EACH STUDENT receives resources for empowerment and support.

Wish us luck as we reach out to students, that we can be relevant and clear as we present this important message in the school community.
