While her own family of four has been displaced several times, MECA's Amal has been figuring out how to get water to thousands of other displaced families in Gaza. Here’s how she describes the current situation:
Providing the necessary aid needed to our Palestinian people in Gaza, has been getting harder and harder during the ongoing genocide of a more than a year and half, and the ongoing complete blockade over the occupied Gaza Strip for more than 50 days. We have nothing coming in, the vicious Israeli attacks on the people are still ongoing, and the majority of people are displaced internally once again; one of the few things that we ARE capable of doing is providing drinkable water.
There are too many details I wish I could share, but the only thing I could say now, is that these Israeli threats of cutting off the water completely off of the Gaza Strip are to be taken seriously, as the ramifications of these decisions and threats are something we are living today. We are doing the best we could to continue to provide drinkable water, BUT if the world does not moved to stop this, Gaza will die of thirst - LITERALLY. Now more than ever is the time to speak up and take action for Gaza.
MECA has five partners working in different areas of Gaza, from the north to the south. Every day, Amal determines where the greatest needs are and what areas we are able to reach. We use trucks of different sizes to reach different areas since some locations have a lot of rubble and very difficult roads so we can only use small trucks.
MECA is now providing 400,000 liters of clean drinking water to families each and every day. This means around 70,000 people have access to water to drink thanks to your support of MECA. We do this despite the massive fuel shortages and the difficulties of operating desalination plants and getting water trucks through the rubble and destroyed roads. We are proud of this work but so much more is needed.
With thanks for your support and solidarity,
