End of coding summer course
In its second year, CYDD computer coding program is moving to smaller towns this summer. The Level 1 course which was given in 7 weekends during the school terms is now transformed into a crash program of 4 weeks for the summer schools. Kocaeli Mualla Eke Cultural Center has already finished their Level 1 Coding summer program. Yalova and Usak will soon be starting their summer courses. All CYDD Cultural Centers in Istanbul and Izmir are giving both level 1 and 2 courses as they already have their laptops
Tablets can also be used for Level 1 course in the centers where there are no laptops. Volunteer trainers carry the tablets to new ÇYDD branches for the crash summer programs. However laptops are necessary for Level 2 and 3. For the new branches to give all 3 courses, we need to buy more laptops and for that we need your support.
We will tell you more about the number of children we have reached this summer in our next report. This program has now become a main attraction for young children and there is a lot of demand from many CYDD branches.
We thank you for your support …

COMPUTER CODING PROGRAM IS DEVELOPING FAST

Young children at work..
We are happy to report that the CYDD computer coding program is developing faster than we have anticipated and we have already many standby students waiting for new level 1 courses. A total number of 180 students have participated in the program through 19 courses opened in different CYDD centers during fall 2016. We have also increased the number of our volunteer trainers (who are scholarship students studying computer sciences) to 41. The courses are held on the weekends and at least two trainers help 8-10 students in each class.
We plan to involve ÇYDD branches in other cities in this program. As long as the branch has volunteer trainer candidates, we will train the trainers and set up their classroom and supervise their team. Following this model, ÇYDD Bursa branch joined the program in 2017 and we also commenced the program in AÇEV’s (Mother and Child Foundation) Center in Esenler, Istanbul.
We are thrilled with the enthusiasm of both the children attending and the trainers working with the children. Young girls and boys from low income families attending the course learn, play and create on their computers and this work, bringing out their creativity is a real diversion from their school work. This course provides also invaluable experience to our young trainers who recognize their teaching and pedagogical skills.
We hope to reach more children in other towns; for this we do need your continual support to set new computer classrooms and train more volunteer trainers.
Thank you..

90 NEW STUDENTS PROFITED FROM THE PROGRAM THIS FALL

Coding students with certificates
Following the success of the pilot computer coding project held in 4 different CYDD summer schools this summer, the project has now become a regular program of CYDD thanks to your support. A new classroom was equipped with 10 laptop computers and 90 new students (level1) in Istanbul and Izmir profited from the program during the 1st school term. Many students who attended level 1 course in summer were also given level2 courses.
Equal number of girls and boys attended the courses and even conservative families became very supportive when they realized that computers are not a menace to children's school work but could be a tool for creativity. On the closing day of each course, individual projects created by each student were presented to the parents and this helped the students to gain self confidence and improve their presentation skills. Course certificates were also given to every participant to further motivate them. The volunteer trainer university scholarship students also benefited from the program as it increased their communicative skills and developed their self confidence.
The classrooms already equipped with computers will continue with separate level1 and level2 coding programs during the 2nd school term and in the summer schools. We are lucky to have so many young CYDD scholarship students studying in computer sciences and who volunteer to be program trainers.
We are proud to have a fun coding program designed by CYDD alumni, implemented by volunteer CYDD scholarship students and growing to give a new vision to more and more children from low income families. However as we hope to expand to other CYDD branches in various cities, we will need more investment in laptops and in training of new local volunteer program implementers. To accomplish all this we need the continuation of your valuable support..
Thank you...
