August marked 4 years since Afghan girls have been banned from education beyond 6th grade. Nearly 80% of Afghan women are not enrolled in school or employed.
Despite 90% of Afghans supporting girls' right to education, it has not changed the reality that girls cannot go to school beyond 6th grade.
AAFF understands that access to education not only equips students for a brighter future but also inspires them to dream, which is why we persevere through these challenging times to continue to operate computer training centers for Afghan girls in grades 4-6. In August, new classes began, and 120 students entered eager to learn.
One student shared with us that she joined the class because she saw her classmates' excitement about the class. When she shared with her mother that she wanted to join, her mother was very happy and proud of her.
Another student shared with us that she enjoyed learning to use the Paint program because she loves to draw and enjoys using bright colors. She explains, "I love bright colors because I want my life to always be colorful and bright, and I want to be successful in life and serve my country and people."
In these challenging times when Afghan girls' access to education continues to decrease, we continue to support Afghan girls to learn valuable computer skills.
You can support more Afghan girls in this project by donating to AAFF’s Empower Afghan Girls with Computer Training project during GlobalGiving’s Safer World Fund Matching campaign, which begins at 9am EDT on September 11. One donation per donor up to $1,000 will be matched 100% while funds last!
