Cross threshold Material and educational poverty Poverty mitigation: the national programme to combat child poverty was launched in 2014 and is now developed in several Italian cities from North to South. The beneficiaries of material support, psycho-pedagogical support, educational support, training and professional guidance, and the development of a local network are families with children living in Italy and experiencing social and economic exclusion and marginali- sation.
The problems linked to precarious economic and social conditions are increasingly especially in the peripheral areas of Milano, Napoli, Catanzaro, Palermo, Perugia, Genova, contexts that FADV supports with a specific programme, 'Crossing the Threshold', through which it supports more than 2.000 minors and 200 families in a vulnerable condition through a contribution to basic needs, but abut above all through study support, psycho-social paths, and educational and recreational activities.
The educational pathways involve involving the boys and girls in tackling with commitment and success the closing commitments of the school year. All this is based on updating the remedial educational plan and objectives - drawn up at the beginning of the year with the school and their teachers - in the light of the progress achieved so far and the gaps still present at the end of the year. Fundamental is work on learning techniques and the study method, as well as educational reinforcement.
The systematic collection of both qualitative (e.g. testimonies of beneficiaries, stories, photographs; etc.) and quantitative (e.g. number of minors, families, operators involved) data throughout the course of the project are aimed at verifying the achievement of objectives, per 100 minors per city
