You helped Rain and Harper!
By Paula Lucas | Founder & Executive Director

When Rain called us from Thailand she was desperate. Her husband had become more and more abusive after they had moved to Bangkok for his job. The night before Rain called us her husband became angry after Harper would not stop crying. Rain explained that Harper had a fever and wasn't feeling well. Her husband ripped Harper from Rain's arms and locked him in a closet. When Rain tried to intervene he hit her.
Luckily Rain had access to their American passports. Because of donations like yours we were able to purchase airline tickets and get Rain and Harper home to the USA. They are living with Rain's parents. Rain filed for a family protection order and emergency custody of Harper. Rain loves her husband but what he did is unacceptable and she will not raise Harper in an abusive home.
We can't thank you enough for helping us help abused Americans abroad like Rain and Harper! The AODVC Team

You helped Catrina and Sadie!

Catrina had been living in Italy with her Italian husband for 4 years. Over time he became more abusive. He had never been physically abusive but his insults, jealousy and need to control her were unbearable.
When she became pregnant with Chloe he accused her of having an affair and he was convinced the baby was not his. When Catrina was six months pregnant with Chloe, in a fit of rage he pushed her and she fell down. That is when she called us.
Catrina knew is she had Chloe in Italy then she would not be able to leave. We were able to safety plan with Catrina and get her home before Chloe was born.
Catrina and Chloe are doing really well. They are living with Catrina's parents and Chloe is adorable!
We can't thank you enough for caring about American domestic violence victims in foreign countries! The AODVC Team.

Ginessa and her daughter are home and safe!
By Paula Lucas | Founder & Executive Director

When Ginessa first married her husband she was so happy. She became pregnant almost immediately. She gave birth to her daughter in the USA.When their daughter was a few years old they moved to Mexico so her husband could work in the family business. At first everything seemed fine, but soon Ginessa's husband began staying out late, coming home drunk, calling her names and throwing things at her. His shouting would wake up her daughter. He had done it twice in the USA and she told him if he ever did it again she would take her daugher and leave. Since it never happened again in the USA, Ginessa was not expecting it to happen in Mexico. But it did, over and over.
Her husband had hidden their passports and told Ginessa that she can never leave. Ginessa and her daughter were trapped. Finally, Ginessa was able to call the American Embassy from a neighbor's home and they gave her AODVC's phone number. We worked with Ginessa for several weeks safety planning with the help of the next door neighbor. Last month, we paid for Ginessa and her daugher to get new passports and got them tickets back home.
We would not have been able to help Ginessa and her daughter without the generosity of donors like you!
