Drinking Water for Humans,Animals of Thar

     The quest for quenching the thirst of drought-hit people of Thar continues by the Customs Health Care Society(CHCS) in collaboration with GLobal Giving Funds under the project,  "Drinking Water for 40 villages of Thar" in Pakistan.CHCS has already completed 11 water wells with the help of disbursement amount of donations from Global giving and local funds from the own sources of CHCS.The sweet water from these water wells is quenching the thirst of hundreds of humans as well animals on daily basis.The women of the villages are particularly very happy to find a water well at their doorsteps as previously they had to travel daily 5-7 K.M to fetch water for their families. During the last 2 months, 3 new wells of fresh, sweet water have been completed which immediately started benefitting the humans as well as animals as is evident from the attached photos.Thar is one of the most remote but beautiful deserts of Pakistan where the only source of getting drinking water is the manually dug wells.

2.    The three new water wells have been completed with the help of local population who actively participated in the digging process.As soon as a well is completed in a village,  the whole population of the village gathers around the water well and celebrates the occasion by distributing sweets among the children.  After the completion of the water well in a village, a committee is constituted by the CHCS in order to supervise the working of the water well and report in case of any damage or repair. This has worked a lot for the smooth running of water wells during the coming years as it creates a sense of ownership among the locals and them look after the water well with utmost care and diligence.  The People of the area told us that a duly maintained water well remains operative and keeps providing fresh, sweet and hygienic water for 50 to 100 years at least.

3.     CHCS is very grateful to the GlobalGiving and donors all over the World for donating to the project.  However, the donors all over the World are kindly requested to donate generousely to the project so that more water wells for the providing fresh, sweet and hygienic water could be completed.

The water well project in collaboration with Global Giving is being implemented successfully. The team of Customs Health Care Society (CHCS) under the leadership of project leader, Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah visited the project area in the last week of December 2016, in order to examine the progress of the project and get feed back from the local community. It was encouraging to note that the 15 wells so far completed completed in collaboration with Global Giving are quenching the thirst of thousands of people as well as animals on daily basis. The local community was very grateful to Customs Health Care Society as well as Global Giving for providing water wells of sweet drinking water at their door steps. These water wells have brought happiness and comfort particularly for women who previously have to travel 5 to 6 kilometer daily to fetch water for their families. At some places the whole village was gathered to thank CHCS and Global Giving for the water wells. At the same time they were also requesting for more water wells under the project as the desert of Thar is a vast area consisting of thousands of villages. The only sustainable source of drinking water in Thar, desert is the manualy dug wells, which if maintained properly can last for 50 to 100 years.

It is pertinent to note that besides digging of new wells CHCS has devised a complete system maintenance and supervision of already completed wells. As soon as a well is completed, the local community is requested to look after this well as it belongs to them. This action by CHCS pleases the local community and they happily look after the well. Special team consisting of representative of CHCS and two persons from the localy community has been assigned the job of inspection, maintenance, repair and replacement on as when required basis. CHCS thanks all the donors as well as Global Giving for supporting this project. At the same time the world community is requested to donate generously to the project for completion of the same as soon as possible.
