Gratitude in Every Classroom: Celebrating Your Impact at Hope Academy

By Amy Baty-Herbert | Project Leader

Hope Academy Students with New Pencils
Hope Academy Students with New Pencils

Thanks in part to your incredible generosity, we are filled with gratitude as we share a truly heartwarming milestone:  all 100,000 pencils from the Year of the Pencil initiative have now been distributed to 20 schools across Freetown on November 20th — including 820 pencils for 82 students at the all-girls Hope Academy.

This moment represents so much more than new supplies.

It represents hope, dignity, confidence, and the belief that every girl and every child deserves the tools to learn and thrive.

We are especially grateful for the impact your support is making at Hope Academy, where young girls are working hard to build brighter futures. A simple pencil may seem small, but for many of these girls, it is the difference between completing classwork or falling behind… between confidence and discouragement… between dreams deferred and dreams pursued.

Because of you, thousands of young learners — especially young girls — now hold the tools they need to succeed. Because of you, classrooms are filled with excitement, confidence, and possibility.  Because of you, hope is alive and growing.

As we continue supporting schools like Hope Academy and strengthening education across Sierra Leone, we remain deeply thankful for your partnership. Your kindness fuels real transformation — one pencil, one girl, one classroom at a time.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Amy & the Develop Africa Team
