2,500 Children Are Waiting For Their First Real Ed

We're excited to share the first wave of device distribution under the Educate 2,500 Less Privileged project. Two partner schools in informal settlements have now received technology to support digital learning for their students and teachers.

1. Kroobay Municipal Primary School: Received 2 Laptops. Use: Teachers are using the laptops to prepare lesson materials, access digital literacy resources, and introduce basic computer skills  to upper primary classes. For many students, this is first time using a computer.

2. Nur Elementary School received 1 Laptop and 1 ipad. Use: The devices are being used for interactive lessons, educational apps, and teacher training. The ipad has been especially valuable for younger learners through visual and hands - on learning activities.

How Donor Funds Were Used: Thanks to the $36 raised by our donors on the GlobalGiving platform. We were able to purchase 4 Electrical Extensions units at $30 total - 2 for each school.  These extentions are essential for safety powering the devices in classrooms with limited power outlets, ensuring students and teachers can use the equipment consistently.

What Changing on the Ground: Teacher capacity: 8 teachers across both schools have completed introductory training on basic computer use and digital lesson planning 

Student Engagement: Over 120 students have had hands - on access to the devices in the first 3 weeks. Teachers report higher attendance and participation during ICT Sessions.

Infrastructure Ready: With the new extensions installed, both schools now have the basic setup needed for safe reliable device use.

Foundation for scale: These distribution serve as pilot sites. Lessons learned here are shaping our rollout plan for the next 10 schools on the waiting list.

Next Steps: Monitor device  usage and maintenance with school focal points to ensure sustainability. 

Provide followup training on digital content creation and classroom and integration.

Expand distribution as more Labdoo devices and support become available through donor funding.

Why This Matters: In Sierra Leone, less than 20% of public primary schools have any access to computers. Through Labdoo devices donations and your support on GlobalGiving, Children in Kroobay Municipal Primary School Nur Elementary these devices and the supporting infrastructure open doors to skills, knowledge, and confidence they previously couldn't access. This is the first step towards our goal of reaching 2,500 less privileged learners with dignity educational tools.

Children In Need Organization engaged schools authorities for the selection of vulnerable children living in deprived slum communities and it was done based on the criteria set, and one of the criteria was to identify the most vulnerable children that can't be catered for from their parents. The exercise took one week because five (5) schools were identified for this project, it was really done in a transparent manner and these identified vulnerable children can't even afford exercise books let alone talked about text books. We also found out that most of these children can't even come to school with lunch nothing like bread or biscuits for them during lunch time. The children at times hardly come to school at times because there is an adage that says an empty bag can't stand, and to be honest it's true and that is why we do appreciate our donors who are supporting these children through GlobalGiving.

The issue of slum children is a call for concern and we are excited about your donations and may the Lord provide for you to continue supporting these project to Educate 2,500 less privileged.
