Full stomachs, ready to learn.

Even when working on our education programs, we recognize one of the biggest obstacles to education is food insecurity. Malnutrition affects nearly 32% of children under five in Tanzania, leading to stunted growth, weakened immune systems, and difficulty concentrating in class. When children arrive at school hungry, their ability to focus, retain information, and perform academically is significantly impacted. Many students drop out, not because they lack the desire to learn, but because they lack the energy to do so.
That’s why we work to ensure that our students have consistent access to nutritious meals alongside their education. By providing school meals and supporting families with food assistance, we help break the cycle of poverty, allowing children to thrive in school and beyond. We're featuring the recently planted corn as a highlight of our food security program that is the foundation of our educational work at Amani too. Thank you for standing with us as we create opportunities for these bright young minds!

Supporting Health for Learning

Our “Providing Inclusive Education in Tanzania” project is about so much more than classroom learning—it’s about creating a whole environment where children can thrive, both in and outside of school. Recognizing that healthy, active bodies support better focus and engagement in academics, we’re developing programs and facilities that promote physical well-being as an essential foundation for learning.
With extracurricular sports programs, a volleyball court, and a first-aid room underway, we’re building a space where students can participate in activities that promote teamwork, resilience, and confidence. These facilities offer opportunities for students to get active, practice new skills, and heal when needed—helping them bring their best selves to the classroom. When students feel strong, healthy, and supported, they’re better able to focus on their studies, retain what they learn, and build a brighter future. Thank you to our donors for making this holistic approach to education possible; we’re excited to share more updates as we complete these spaces and continue to enhance our learning environment!

Educational Updates from Amani!

At Amani, we have a 100% rate of matriculation between grades and graduation overall. Two of our children were set to join Form Five, with one boy selected for Anna Mkapa Secondary School and one girl for Dutwa Secondary School in Bariadi, Simiyu. That's amazing, because placement in good schools means brighter futures! Additionally, two children continued their education and skills development at the Community Development College (FDC). This year, a total of 17 children prepared for their national exams: five in Standard Seven, two in Standard Four, three in Form Four, and seven in Form Two. We have high expectations for their performance and are committed to supporting their academic success.
These exams are a crucial time for support because they determine a student's future! In Tanzania, the education system consists of seven years of primary school, followed by four years of lower secondary (Form One to Form Four) and two years of upper secondary (Form Five and Form Six). National exams are crucial milestones in the academic journey, determining the transition between these stages. Our commitment to education aligns with the national goals of improving literacy rates and providing quality education for all children. Furthermore, our collaborations with other homes in the Arusha region, such as Majengo Center and Small Things Tanzania, were instrumental in enhancing our capabilities through shared best practices and overcoming challenges together. This network of support has enabled us to provide better educational opportunities and resources for our children, ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed.
