High Quality Education
By Elizabeth Appleyard | Program Officer

The Bon Center has 231 students in their care and provides education and residential care. Some students are orphans others have families in Nepal or Tibet. This photos shows some of the more senior boys preparing a school project. The education the students receive is of high quality and that is why Bon people send their children to the center for their education even though it is far from home.
New students soon settle into the life of the center, make friends and enjoy all that is offered including music, sports and field trips. Many students come from small rural villages and if they had stayed there would not have been exposed to the range of educational and extra curriculum activities. Here is one student’s thoughts, “As a teenager you can see mistakes you have made. If you don’t study you can make problems for yourself and life becomes miserable and sometimes we can become angry at life. As a student we have to pay attention to our education. If we neglect our education then there will be no good future ahead. Your future depends on you. If you want to live happily you need modern education and we are being supported in this by the Bon Center and its staff.”
Thank you for your continuing interest in the Bon people.

As the year draws to a close, we want to thank you for your support in 2017. Your donations have helped many people improve their lives. Thank you for being a part of this!
The Bon Center has 231 students in their care providing education and residential care. Stories are the best way for us to show how you have helped the Bon people improve their lives and communities. Here is one of our favorite commentaries from a Bon student.
“The world is changing because of the thinking of educated people and scientific knowledge. Now, the modern world considers a man without education to be like a vehicle without petrol, uneducated people get left behind on the road. Sometimes the educated don’t seem like real educated people to me because they lack understanding of traditional ways, eco-friendly living and concern for equality of all people. The Bon center helps me be an educated person in all ways.”

The children at the Bon Center are encouraged to participate in all the activities offered. They play many different sports including basketball, track, football and table tennis. The students compete in local events against other schools as well as competing aside other house teams at the center. The school philosophy is to educate and develop rounded individuals and physical activity is part of that. There are 231 students at the center and most are engaged in some form of physical activity. Here is one student’s thoughts, “My name is Lachen. People’s fondness for games varies from person to person. I like many games and sports but my favorite is football. My favorite team is Germany. I always try my best at football and enjoy playing. I want to be a footballer when I grow up.”
Thank you for your continuing interest in the Bon people.
