Educate the Most Underserved Children of Pakistan

With the second wave of COVID - 19, schools were closed down again.

In the interim period, children were prepared to take the annual examinations due in March 2020. The week they were promoted to next grades the schools were closed again. 

The school has a distance education facility, but children don't have the necessary equipment and connectivity to benefit from online teaching. As space is not an issue, classes can be organised, maintaining the required physical distance and taking the other precautionary measures, but the government doesn't allow it. 

We hope normalcy prevails soon and children are back to school.

After a gap of six months, children are back in Khoj School for Community Education on the last day of September 2020. It is going to be a demanding task to refresh children's memory and to engage them in the educational activity after a long gap.

During the closure of schools due to coronavirus, online education could not take place at the school for two reasons. Firstly, most of the children didn't have computers or smartphones to attend classes. Secondly, the equipment of the virtual teaching centre at Khoj School was stolen, which included an LCD and a UPS. The theft made the virtual activity impossible. It was a long, tiring and a daunting police case. The case is still in court. Located in a hub of criminals, Khoj School has been facing such challenges right from the beginning.

During the Pandemic, four teachers left the job, and new teachers were recruited in August. As Khoj School uses an alternative method of learning and teaching, new teachers are always trained thoroughly. In August and September, the teachers - old and new - were introduced in the overall approach and methodology, phonetic method of teaching literacy, teaching science and mathematics through immersion in real-life situations and student-teacher relationship.

It is hoped that coronavirus remains under control and no further school closures take place.
