Thanks to the incredible support of donors like YOU, our Year of the Pencil distribution created unforgettable joy and opportunity for students across Sierra Leone. One of our volunteers, Phillip, recently shared a powerful moment from the Model Municipal Infants Primary School in Kissy Dock Yard, Freetown, where 593 students received pencil pouches.
He said, “About 90% of the pupils arrived early for school that day—they were ready and excited because their head teacher told them about the event.” Teachers and students were filled with anticipation, joy, and gratitude. The schoolyard buzzed with energy as each child proudly received a pencil of their own.
For many students in Sierra Leone, something as small as a pencil or notebook isn’t guaranteed. In fact, 2 out of 3 students come to school without basic supplies.
That’s why your support matters so deeply.
Your generosity during the Year of the Pencil initiative did more than place tools into children’s hands—it placed belief, encouragement, and possibility into their hearts.
The pupils and staff at Model Municipal Infants Primary School asked us to extend their heartfelt thanks to you. Teachers expressed renewed hope. Students smiled with pride. And families felt grateful knowing their children were equipped to learn
As we look to the end of 2025, we are reminded that your continued support can change the trajectory of a child’s education. Every notebook, every pencil, every gift makes a lasting impact.
Thank you for helping children learn, dream, and thrive—one pencil at a time.
With gratitude,
Amy & the Develop Africa Team
