Celebration of the Day of the African Child

Thanks to your generous support, Develop Africa Sierra Leone (DASL) successfully commemorated the International Day of the African Child with a special event emphasizing the importance of educational opportunities. Celebrated annually on June 16th, this day honors the memory of the SOWETO Kids protest of 1976 and raises awareness about the challenges faced by African children.

Mrs. Solade P., a board member of Develop Africa Sierra Leone, delivered an inspiring speech during the event. Drawing parallels with the movie Sarafina, she highlighted the theme: "Education for all African children - the time is now." She explained that this theme was collectively chosen by African presidents to emphasize the urgent need for universal access to education.

Mrs. Solade P. also commended Develop Africa Sierra Leone's efforts in providing educational materials, vocational training, financial support, and establishing a nursery school in Kamawornie village. She emphasized the importance of early education in laying a strong foundation for children’s future success.

The event featured a TEDx presentation by a young speaker on the importance of education, which resonated deeply with the children. The program also included a Q&A session, refreshments, and games. You can see more photos from the event in this album.

By investing in the education of future leaders, donors like you empower individuals and spark positive change within their communities. Your support has made a significant difference in the lives of young people across Sierra Leone. Thank you for your continued commitment to this important cause.
