Educate the Future Leaders of Sierra Leone

Dear Project Supporters, 

We told you in a previous report that  25 drums full of school supplies arrived in Sierra Leone this past month. This week the dedicated Develop Africa Sierra Leone (DASL) team packed 147 book bags to be distributed to students from Nursery School through Secondary School in Bo, Kamawarnie, Freetown, and Makeni.  Distributions to multiple schools and students will take place over the next week as students get ready to go back to school in September. 

The 147 bookbags were separated by grades:

Nursery School - Class 2 book bags contain 12 notebooks, 2 erasers, 10 pencils, crayons, a ruler, an umbrella, and a pencil sharpener.

Class 3- Class 6 book bags contain 6 notebooks, 2 erasers, 10 pens, 5 pencils, crayons, a ruler, an umbrella, and a pencil sharpener.

 Junior & Senior Secondary book bags contain  8 notebooks, 2 erasers, 10 pens, 5 pencils, crayons, a ruler, an umbrella, and a pencil sharpener.

Over the next few weeks, we will share reports with photos, stories, and videos of the school supplies being distributed in each area.  

Each step of the process of getting school supplies donated, shipped to Sierra Leone, and then distributed to students is only possible because of generous donors like you!

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to be a child in class and not have a pencil? 

Not just for 1 day but for a whole year or several years?

In this video, Janet (Develop Africa donor) and Abu Stephen Conteh (Program Manager, Develop Africa Sierra Leone) share their unique perspectives on the importance and practical value of a pen/pencil.  

Janet explains what it was like to not have a pencil while on a trip, many years ago, in Kenya.

Abu shares about what it was like to be in class as a child and have to share a pencil. Picture in your mind writing super fast!

When kids don't have pencils, they are not able to take notes.  They miss out on a lot.

No kid should have to be in that disadvantaged position.

We are so thankful that you are helping to provide pencils to kids in Africa.

Because of your ongoing support, children will have their own pencils.

Because of you, children will not have to share pencils.

Children will be able to take notes.
