EMERGENCY APPEAL TO HELP CHILDREN IN DARFUR, SUDAN

We are so happy to share that your generous donations have helped us reach 100,000 children with food, medicine, and more. So far our Kids Kitchen Kits have fed over 35,000 children, giving them desperately needed protein. And we are not stopping there.

Our Founder and CEO, Patricia, is kept informed on almost a daily basis, not just of the overall situation in Darfur – which is heartbreaking, but also about those whom we are doing our best to help.

We have just heard from one of our volunteers in Darfur about Hajja. She and her husband and their small children were living in the North of El Fasher. It became too dangerous for Hajja’s family to stay in their home, so they fled to friends in the south of El Fasher.  The siege of the town has led to starvation, a desperate lack of healthcare and, even more worrying, a lack of water. You will remember from our last report that we were able to get two huge tankers of water into El Fasher, but now it has become too dangerous for our volunteers to help more than they have done already.

Hajja and her husband decided they had to flee El Fasher, which was growing extremely dangerous and food was becoming scarce. When they passed through check points, they were robbed but thankfully none of them was killed or assaulted. They took refuge in their hometown, Um Jum Jum which they had left 15 years before. Um Jum Jum became a Kids for Kids Village in 2018, and the villagers warmly welcomed Hajja and her family back, helping them to build a hut with local straw, and shared their milk and food with them. Hajja’s husband now has work - on a neighbour’s land. But the family owns nothing.  Hajja has asked if we could provide a donkey, a mattress and a jerry can.

You may have read how we are doing all we can to help IDP families like Hajja's to make a permanent home in our villages.  We have already asked for help to be provided urgently for her. There are many families facing similar problems all across the region.

Can you help us help more families like Hajja's?

Children who have been surviving on animal feed urgently need proper food. Families need Seed to Plant for the next Harvest. Everyone needs access to clean water to avoid cholera, which is spreading through Sudan right now.

A Date for Your Diary: GlobalGiving Bonus Day on 16th - 17th July! 

GlobalGiving is boosting donations between $100 (£73) and $1000 (£730) from 10 AM EDT (3PM BST) Wednesday 16th July to 10AM EDT (3PM BST) 17th July! That means additional free money for Kids for Kids!   It costs just $34 (£25) to provide a Kids Kitchen Kit for a child full of essential protein and nutrients. Can you help us provide food for 150 Children on 16th July?  Please set a reminder now and tell your friends how their donations can go further by giving on one specific day!

Hunger has reached a crisis point in Darfur, but your dedicated support is saving lives. During the March Little by Little Campaign alone 72 wonderful donors came together on GlobalGiving to raise $5,299 and provide 106 Kids Kitchen Kits for Children. That's lentils, pulses, groundnuts, powdered meat and cooking oil for families to ensure Children do not have to survive on just one single meal a day. And, most excitingly....$1,426 of that amount was a boost directly from GG generated by your kind donations!

Sadly, the situation in Darfur is worsening, with reports from the regional capital not only of starvation but also of the lack of water - with temperatures currently over 38c and likely to rise much higher.  Then we fear floods when the rains come, which will make things even harder. Families have been forced to flee their villages to El Fasher, which is under a terrifying siege. Despite the dangers, our volunteer Yagoub, who is part of the Kids for Kids Steering Committee, has coordinated the delivery of two full tankers of fresh clean water for families from 12 villages. A hugely important lifeline that wouldn't have been possible without your continued support for Urgent Aid in Darfur.

We cannot sit back and watch children die of hunger and thirst. These families have lost everything and now face starvation and dehydration. If each of you tells just one friend about the urgent need in Darfur and encourages them to donate over $100 (£73) on Wednesday 16th July we can easily reach 150 more Children with Emergency Food Packs.
