Project Summary

This project aims to train and equip 20 young journalists in Goma, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to effectively combat misinformation. Through comprehensive training, access to professional reporting tools, and the creation of a Web Radio/TV production studio, these journalists will be empowered to produce and share accurate, real-time information. In a region affected by conflict and flooded with fake news, this initiative seeks to restore public trust in the media.

Project Objectives

  • Build the capacity of 20 young aspiring journalists in Goma.
  • Provide professional-grade reporting equipment.
  • Launch a local Web Radio/TV platform for trusted news dissemination.
  • Counter misinformation and its harmful social effects.
  • Promote peace, transparency, and an informed community.

Humanitarian Context

Eastern DRC, especially Goma, has long been affected by conflict, creating fertile ground for the spread of fake news. False information fuels community tensions, hinders peace efforts, and erodes public trust.
Young people, though eager to contribute to change, often lack the resources and skills to take action against disinformation.

Key Activities

  • Select and mentor 20 young aspiring journalists.
  • Conduct training sessions on ethical journalism, fact-checking, and reporting in conflict zones.
  • Provide essential reporting equipment: voice recorders, cameras, microphones, laptops.
  • Set up a small Web Radio/TV studio in Goma.
  • Produce and regularly broadcast verified news content.

Expected Results

  • 20 journalists trained and operational.
  • A functional local media platform.
  • Ongoing production of reliable information for the community.
  • Increased public understanding and reduced spread of rumors.
  • A long-term, local initiative to combat misinformation.
