Dear Supporters:
We are very happy because we received the visit of four domestic workers whose situation has improved thanks to the training they received at La Casa de Panchita, before finding a job through our employment agency. Thanks to your support:
- Alicia, who was 21 years old in 2012, received training and obtained her first job, with a salary of PEN 1,000 (USD 310) and social benefits. She remained there until 2015, when she had a baby. By then, she was earning PEN 1,650 (USD 510) per month.
- Ubaldina, from Cusco, got her first job in 2011 and has kept that position until last September, earning PEN 1,300 (USD 400) per month. She has returned to La Casa de Panchita because she wishes to switch from “live in” domestic work to “live out”, to be able to spend more time with her family. She received all her social benefits and a good letter of recommendation.
- Leydi, at age 27, trained with us and got a job in 2011. She started earning PEN 750 (USD 230), the minimum wage at the time. Today she is still employed and her salary has increased up to PEN 1,400 (USD 430).
- Aurea first came to La Casa de Panchita when she was 49. After training, she started taking care of an elderly lady, until she passed away this year. Aurea started earning PEN 900 (USD 280) and ended up earning PEN 1,300 (USD 400) monthly.
Alicia, Ubaldina, Leydi and Aurea are just a sample of the approximately 400 women who are trained annually to empower themselves, improve their work skills and learn how to negotiate more dignified conditions in domestic work. The fact that they returned to La Casa de Panchita after so many years shows the importance of our work, which is only possible thanks to your solidarity.
Thank you!
Best regards,
Blanca Figueroa

Great little adventures for our girls

Dear Supporters,
This year we want girls in child domestic labor who participate in Sunday sessions at La Casa de Panchita to have the opportunity to enjoy the cultural offer of Lima. We have taken them several Sundays - while the weather was still warm - to the Water Park, which has many fountains in which to play. We also took them to see a theater play for children. They had never been to the theater and some girls did not know what a theater was. They liked it very much and for them it was a very valuable experience!
At the end of the day we asked:
How did you feel at La Casa de Panchita?
- "I felt happy and I laughed" (Mara, 10 years old)
- "I loved the food and I could repeat" (Karla, 11 years old)
What did you learn today?
- "I learned not to be ashamed and many new things. I also laughed a lot" (Ximena, 10 years).
- "I learned about domestic child labor and, at the theater, that dreams can come true" (Anahí, age 13)
- "I met some theater actors today and I really liked it because I had never been to the theater" (Alison, 14).
- "I like my storybook [which she received as a gift]; I'm going to show it to my mom" (Cristina, 9 years old).
All this is possible thanks to your support. Thank you!
Best regards,
Blanca Figueroa

Our achievements in 2016
By Blanca Figueroa | Project Leader

Dear Supporters,
Thanks to your donations we were able to keep this project up and running and we are confident we will continue to do so, together! Your continued support allowed AGTR-La Casa de Panchita to keep providing core services to girls in child domestic labor and adult domestic workers. This particular project is a key element of a broader set of initiatives we implement in Lima (Peru). We wish to share with you our main achievements in 2016. In particular, you helped us provide:
- Direct service to 1,753 children and adolescents in child domestic work (CDW) between the ages of 6 and 17 from Lima, Callao and Cajamarca, who were informed and oriented about the risks of CDW, received psychosocial support, educational materials on their rights, access to recreational and cultural activities and nutritious and healthy food.
- Direct service to 1,023 domestic workers, aged between 18 and 65, from Lima, who received guidance and information on their labor rights, labor training, workshops for the development of personal skills, emotional counselling and expressive arts therapy. Of these, 212 obtained employment in domestic service with a written contract in accordance with the law and remunerations generally higher than the minimum wage.
Thank you for believing in this great cause!
Sincerely,
Blanca Figueroa
