Dear supporters:
Every Sunday, from 9am to 10am, our organization hosts a radio program called “We are not invisible”, about the issues faced by girls and women in domestic work.
Domestic workers often begin their schooling late or drop out due to hard working conditions, never completing primary education. We asked our listeners if they thought there was a proper age to be in school and they answered:
“There is no age limit when it comes to education. It’s hard when you move to lima at a young age to work, but schools have a night classes [from 6pm to 10pm] domestic workers can attend to. It takes a lot of determination, but we can do it!”. - Maria, 37
“My grandma could read, but had never learned how to write. At 67 she went back to school and she is doing great! She is so proud of herself and does not worry about her age”. - Carmen, 24.
At La Casa de Panchita we help child domestic workers stay in school and acquire the educational capital they need to build a better future for themselves. We empower adult domestic workers to complete their education and improve their livelihood. Together we can make a difference.
Thank you for your support!
Best regards,
Blanca Figueroa
