Summary

The project aims to improve lives of child labourers, non-school going children and first generation learners by creating a model for the holistic education of the children of migrant workers. It aims to break the deep rooted generational cycle of unskilled labor through a holistic approach to education, recognizing that a 'well-rounded,' democratically-skilled child has an increased chance to work as a skilled laborer. Challenge

The project area is not developed industrially and economically, resulting for the most of the population to rely on monsoon dependent agriculture. The area is predominant tribal area, 72% of the population is schedule tribes. High prevalence of poverty and migration for employment is rampant. Children who do not migrate with their families are left with the grandparents, who are illiterate, unaware & disengage from children's educational needs. The quality of education in schools is very poor.

Solution

This project will be providing access to quality formal and non-formal education to children; raising awareness in communities about Right to Education, School Management Committee, other rights and resources that communities can access for improvement of their lives through Area Resource Centers; improving the quality of education through Community Education Centers, helping to enroll and retain more children in schools, with specific focus on child labour and non-school going children.

Long-Term Impact

Break a vicious circle of poverty, migration and unskilled labour by providing quality conventional and non-conventional education. To enable communities to access human rights and available support. To stop / reduce forced migration by supporting first generation skilled learners. To empower them through a combination of formal & life skill training, career & vocational guidance, ensure conducive working conditions and make them aware about their labour rights & other Govt. welfare schemes.
