The Immediate Future - Moving Forward Finally!

Thank you SO MUUUCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH for responding to my request for $100 for food parcels. So far we have received enough money to buy 30food parcels, which we have started to deliver. Thank you for making a huge difference.

Finally, we have permission to start work in a safe manner, delivering food and also training (from a distance) the Food 4 Life Program.

In South Africa we have a word “Ubuntu” a quality that includes the essential human virtues of compassion and humanity. That is exactly what you have shown, the spirit of Ubuntu. THANK YOU.

Not only do we thank you, but on behalf of all the families that we serve, you have no idea what your support means to them.

As I said last week, we work with 98% orphaned and vulnerable children and their families. Additionally, there is a huge segment of this population who fled from a civil war in Mozambique over 40 years ago. This has resulted in multiple generations of “undocumented” people who are blocked from government services or assistance as non-South Africans. The greatest caring burden falls on women. I cannot imagine what it is like to hear your children crying from hunger at night. The thought is too aweful.

The issues of COVID in this rural area has been devastating …none of which has been seen on any media platform. We want you to know that because of your generosity, and the partnership with our local supermarket chains, the mission of KTD196 is providing lifesaving and life sustaining work.

If you would consider helping us feed another 30 or more families, we can stay despair and hunger with food parcels.

Each $100 goes a long way to providing food and strength to fight off the complications caused by the COVID virus.

The Hidden Costs of Covid

Avuxeni one and all, thank you so much for all of your support both to our new comers and also to those who have been with us over the years.

A special thank you to those who have supported us on a monthly basis, you have made all of this possible, THANK YOU so much.I want to give you some back ground on the province of Limpopo to put into perspective the impact of the COVID-19 virus. Limpopo is one of the poorest provinces in the country of South Africa. The unemployment rate is very high and forces most people in the province to rely on child support grants.

If you can imagine, the unemployment rates before COVID was as high at 31% in 2019…now, that number has tripled over these last 90 days. The youth aged 15–24 years are the most vulnerable in the South African labour market. With unemployment so high to start off 2020 and now with many businesses having closed their doors permanently plus casual labourers having no work, the crime rate has escalated, domestic, sexual, drug and alcohol abuse has spiked as people deal with this crisis.

The cost of basic foods has also escalating due to Covid and with the future uncertainty of food insecurity due to the planned modified lockdown expected until at least September, we are launching our Food 4Life program to mitigate the impact of the rise in overall food costs and assist with food security for the poorest of the poor within the communities we serve. The Food 4Life program will:

1. Provide long term sustainable source of food for families

2. Build the immune system and assist in reducing the impact of Covid

This time of year is our dry season which means that water is not readily available, fortunately the program requires grey water (recycled) so this is important for sustainability of the project. Due to the virus the government has increased the supply of water to the communities in which we work and we will capture and recycle as much as possible to conserve so that post Covid there will be water available to sustain the Food4Life program.

In the midst of this devastating virus, Keep The Dream196 is working harder than ever to be a beacon of hope, inspiration and solution. Our work is needed now more than ever and we have never been prouder to be able to serve our communities in a very real and impactful way. Your support is appreciated and so essential to. We want you to know that you are making a huge difference right now.

We are asking all of our partners for a gift of $100 that will go directly to The Food 4Life program that we are launching. This program will create a bank of food and nourishment for the surrounding communities to be able to feed their children and families.

Your contribution will enable us to even provide employment to some in the community to help with the growing and distribution of the food. The lack of food security and nourishment particularly for the 66% of South Africans (particularly women and children) who live below the poverty line and in extreme poverty means growth stunting of children has reached 40% nationally. If we help one child to eat better, they then perform well at school; pay attention to learning. They are receiving the nourishment their growing bodies require to develop cognitively, intellectually, emotionally and physically. Developmental Stunting affects 40% of all children under the age of 18yrs in South Africa.

Dramatic changes to our plans - Covid 2020

It seems like such a long time ago we could meet

Welcome to KTD196 Community!

Thank you so much for choosing Keep The Dream196 as a recipient of your support! Because of you, we are able to bring about real change in the lives of the children and families we serve. We can’t tell you how much it means to know that you have our backs and believe wholeheartedly in the work we do.

As you have so generously helped us, we hope that you and your family are doing well. During this global COVID-19 pandemic, stay safe and know that we are indeed praying for you and your family. It is during times like these that we realize how blessed we really are.

The virus has impacted Limpopo and every family here as well. We have had to be very creative and put systems in place to continue to do our work of serving our kids. Even during this crisis, the children more than ever rely on us for support and resources. Their safety and well-being remains our highest priority. Lack of Wi-Fi and phone data make it difficult, but we are working tirelessly to ensure every avenue is used because now more than ever they need us. Our lockdown is being reinforced by the police and military, any infringements of the rules are being met with hefty fines and/or jail. Sadly we are prevented from visiting the children face to face.

Currently we have just finished a 21day lockdown which has now been extended another 14days until the end of April, this has devastating effects on our economy. Limpopo is one of the poorest provinces in nation with a very high unemployment rate, most families we work with ie over 95% rely on the Social Grants for basic food provision. Many business's will be forced to close and unemployment will most definitely escalate and create further poverty and chaos.

While so many things are out of our control and we may be faced with many “unknowns”, please take comfort in knowing that through your support that we are able to literally save lives and assist the children we serve to reach their dreams.
