The 11th edition of the Bulgarian Creative Writing Competition is underway and it is getting closer to its final stage. The registration started on October 5th and it was completed by October 25th. 126 schools registered for participation in the competition and over 2300 participants took part in the competition. This year for the first time we have an international participation – 92 students from Pakistan. It is a result of the newly established partnership with “Eye on Ivy” organization from Pakistan.
The writing days were organized on November 24 and 25th. Due to the COVID pandemic all the schools in Bulgaria were on distance learning and the competition was organized online. The students had an hour to write on topics provided by the organizers – 3 topics for each grade. They were unusual and provoked the creative and imaginary thinking of the students. The students really enjoyed them and among the most popular among them were: The Earth’s new clothes; Once upon a time, bees forgot how to make honey; If only she hadn’t chosen the red one; Bottled emotions are on sale; When nothing is going right, go left, etc.
The first round of judging also was organized online. 48 judges who are experts in different spheres were involved in the selection of the national qualifiers. The judges were impressed by the outstanding English language skills of the students, their distinctive styles, the voices of their characters, and all the transporting descriptions of setting and mood. They distinguished themselves as exemplary storytellers sharing vivid images and deep emotions and perceiving the world around them in a mature way. The 18 best works in each grade qualified to the national round of judging which will happen online on January 30th and the winners will be announced on February 1st. The Award ceremony will be organized online at the end of February and all the participants and their teachers will be invited to be part of it.
