Summary

Proficiency in computers is an absolute requirement for success in today's technology-driven society. However, due to financial limitations, many children and youths in Sierra Leone have no access to computers or computer learning opportunities. This project is helping to change this by providing basic computer training. This training is in great demand, providing the much-needed foundation for future success.

Challenge

Tens of thousands of impoverished youths in Sierra Leone do not have access to computer training. This has widespread ramifications affecting learning, research, the quality of education and business growth. Because of this computer incompetency, the job market, and their economic opportunities are considerably narrowed. On a macro level, this causes economic deterioration as African nations are not able to keep up with other developing regions.

Solution

Learning opportunities provided through our computer labs are helping to prepare kids and youths for success in our computer-enabled and connected society. Empowered with new technological competency, they perform better in school/college. At their jobs, they are more valuable and productive. Bright young minds become better qualified for jobs that were previously unavailable to them. This empowers them to meet their family and community needs.

Long-Term Impact

Computer training is an effective long-term investment. It helps to eradicate poverty by enhancing education, broadening options and opening the door to new opportunities. It offers young people with computer experinece to an economic marketplace steeped in computer technology and related opportunities. This is helping to prepare African economies for our technology-aided world. By providing youth with computer skills, we uplift African communities.
