Congratulations! 4 Set of Computer Training Graduates

By Sylvester Renner | Project Leader

Training of Trainers - one of FAWE teachers
Training of Trainers - one of FAWE teachers

Congratulations!  We have together helped to provide training for girls since November 2011.  This means 4 different set of graduates have benefited from this technology initiative.

The girls have learned a variety of tasks including the following:

  • Computer components / system basics
  • Word processing and text formatting
  • Researching online
  • Making identity cards

A new school year started a couple weeks ago and the girls were very happy to resume classes.  The girls have been steadily learning through the classes we continue to offer.  Lessons take place 3 times a week and include practical sessions.

Since we started offering classes over 4 years ago, the classes have been taught by an outside instructor, on contract.  Last year, we started offering classes (twice a week) to the school teachers, as they expressed a desire to learn as well.  This semester, we are continuing training of the Teachers to ensure they are fully competent.  At the end of this training, the teachers will take over and be responsible for the computer instruction.  Additionally, this is a great professional development benefit for the teachers.

We will continue to provide technical and operational support and explore opportunities with the teachers to further expand the training we are offering to the girls.  With your support, we also hope this year to replace computers and upgrade the office software.

Behind the Scenes: Most of the original computers and the furniture have been in use since the inception of the lab. Over the years we have replaced components on 8 computers (memory, motherboards etc.)  We have also had to repair desks / chairs and replace chairs.  Currently the lens in the project shows a red display when it is on for a long time (see photos).

We are so very excited about this opportunity to help prepare these girls for future positions of leadership.  We would appreciate your help in purchasing a replacement projector.  Thanks for your support!
