UPDATES ON FAMILY MICRO-ENTERPRISES
Happy New Month!
We are delighted to dispense you with an update on the status and progress of the microenterprises you helped us establish for the families of orphaned and vulnerable children.
The family with cattle, is still receiving milk for their daily use and some for sale. Another family which we shared with you that had sold a cow and used the money to start a shop business, apparently the shop is doing well and it’s generating a small income that is helping the family for their daily needs.
UPDATE ON PETAL (Re-usable Sanitary Towels) MICRO-ENTERPRISES
The making of additional sanitary towels is complete. Currently we have three hundred pieces that will be distributed to the two remaining schools.
This sanitary towels will help and prevent the girls from using unhygienic materials such as tissue paper and rags, which lead to diseases infections.
During the distribution, we will also have menstrual hygiene talk with the girls to empower them to take control of their own health and feel confident about managing their period.
UPDATES ON HOME VISITS & CHILDREN WELFARE
Regardless of the recent floods in many places in Kenya, we conducted our first quarter home visits to seven families but unfortunately, we could not access some homes due to flooding. The two remaining families will be soon visited. The goal of these visits is to improve family care, address survival gaps impacting children, and provide emotional support.
We also manage guardians' stress, teach skills on how to operate empowerment projects, and conduct a family evaluation on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. During the visits, we supported the families with food packages.
The children are doing well and they reopened school on Monday May 13th. The school were set to reopen on Monday 29th April but due the floods that affected institutions and major roads in some areas, the school reopening for term two was postponed for 2 weeks.
Happily, we have completed paying term two school fee and purchasing of school related items for primary and secondary students’.
On the other hand, The Care Leavers (Older Children) are doing well, and we are pleased to inform you that two of them have successfully completed their certificate in catering and they are now looking for jobs. Another Care Leaver who did Bachelor of Science in dry land Agriculture and graduated in 2021 is now working at flower farm.
As the Organization, we also gave another Care Leaver who did Bachelor of Science in Information Technology a two month contract from April to May to assist us in planning for new strategy pilot including budgeting.
Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well. So thank you so much for helping us get this far.
