In Kenya, from the 3rd of January till the 1st of November 2021, there have been 253.310 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 5.281 deaths, reported to WHO. As of 30 October 2021, a total of 5.307.181 vaccine doses have been administered. Vaccine doses are distributed slowly, and if there aren’t extraordinary accelerations, what the Government has promised last July, to reach 10 million vaccinated adults by the end of the year, won’t be achieved.
Our project manager for Kenya, Sara Manzoni, referred that schools opened months ago, and the ministry of Education enacted a series of guide lines to prevent the spread of Coronavirus: one of them consists in exploiting every space available for teaching, even outside, under big trees and in large green spaces to ensure the right physical distancing between students. We like to think that this way, lessons could be more not only more accessible but also meaningful for the kids.
In the meanwhile, Kenya is one of those countries which still hasn’t recovered yet from the economic consequences of the pandemic, poverty, scarcity of resources and transport make an already complex situation more difficult. Thankfully our kids live in an area where Covid-19 hasn’t spread much and hopefully tourism, which is the first source of income for the country, will re-start soon.
We really look forward to meeting our beneficiaries soon, the next trip is scheduled for the end of December! We want to help more kids as possible, this year we received only 65 USD Dollars in donations, we need your help to grant a better future for orphans in Nginda!
