This project supports the education of girls from red light areas through school sponsorships and community classrooms in Delhi, Bihar & Bengal. It also provides a safe space with livelihood and rights training, food banks & legal clinics for at-risk & prostituted women through a network of community centers.
Through our community center schools and education sponsorship program, we support the education of 113 children in Bihar, 293 children in New Delhi, and 60 children in Kolkata, including the sponsorship of eight college students studying PoliSci, graphic design and nursing.
Since May of this year, 21 women have gained an Apne Aap membership, providing access to Government ID’s, subsidies, savings and loans, legal empowerment, education and livelihood linkage. Our sewing classes and food truck cooperative provide skills training and livelihood linkage. We currently have eighteen women in Bihar and ten women in Kolkata enrolled in our stitching classes. Eleven women continue to run the food truck cooperative in Nizamuddin Basti, New Delhi.
We continue to disperse meals to women and children at our community centers and to families through our 1m meals initiative. Since May of this year we have distributed meals to 747 families.
Thanks to friends of Apne Aap, we continue to be fierce advocates of women and girls, promoting equality and increasing choice to end sex trafficking.
