Preventing Prostitution post Covid

The ongoing crisis of Covid19 and the government lockdown in India has adversely affected the community of women and children in Najafgarh,Delhi. They have lost all means to livelihood and facing difficulties in finding food for their families. 

 On 24th of March, we started our 1 Million Meals campaign to provide food and basic health kits to the community after receiving distressed calls from the young children in the community. Today we have been able to distribute 3.2 Million Meals to 50,000 victims of trafficking across India and have distributed nearly 400,000 meals to our communities in Najafgarh, Delhi. 

The schools are closed following government orders, but the girls have access to online education and the schools are strictly following the time table and routine as before. The schools are working online  since 1st of April.This ensures that the girls do not miss out on their education.

Our community mobilser, Mamta has been very active in ensuring that the meal distributions take place as planned by our 1 Million Meals campaign and the girls also have access to education through online learning. 

They have had community sessions twice a week to educate about Covid19 and how to stay safe and use masks and sanitizers to prevent infection. 

These are very difficult times for the women and children in the community and our field team and volunteers are trying their best to ensure that the girls have access to food, housing and education.
