The Covid-19 pandemic put a halt on education in India. Once schools reopened children coming from low-income housing had an especially difficult time returning to school due to costs of attendance, lack of food, and travel fees. Apne Aap Women Worldwide provides schooling and meals to support the children who need it most.
50 young students are being supported through schooling, meals, and extracurricular activities. Meals at school are provided through Apne Aap’s campaign #1MillionMeals. The children get to draw, sing, learn poetry and other activities that are scheduled on a daily basis. Apne Aap also provided Karate classes to the children to learn self-defense and confidence.
In addition to supporting young learners, Apne Aap is taking care of and providing education to girls and women, ranging in age, from low-income families. Providing access to elementary school all the way to professional studies of the student's choice.
Varsha and Arti are two bright girls enrolled in school with the eldest, Varsha in 12th grade and Arti in 10th. Their mother is a prostituted woman and widow raising the two girls on her own. Apne Aap provided housing and food to both girls and access to schooling. Varsha completed her 12th year with great marks and is set on attending a Beautician course to gain certification. Arti is studying for hours a day to ensure she passes her 10th-grade examinations with help from her sister. Apne Aap also educationally supports women enrolled in college and professional programs, like sisters Poonam and Reshma. Both have been supported by Apne Aap Women Worldwide from the 6th grade, they are now 25 and 24. Poonam the eldest and Reshma, have both completed their BA’s from Shri Arvind Mahila College and are both preparing together to sit for the Bihar Public Service Commission Examination. Apne Aap also provides technology such as computers and wifi to students who need it, like college graduate Jyoti. Jyoti has been supported by Apne Aap from childhood and has been provided a computer and necessary technology to enroll in an online course.
There are 6 million children of the 230 million vulnerable children in India, who will not go back to school due to lack of food. We are helping some of them in the red-light areas of Delhi, Kolkata, and Bihar but need your help to continue to support the children who need us most.
