Children's Dream: A Return to Hope

Joseph (not his real name) lives with his parents and six younger siblings in a camp for internally displaced people (IDPs) in Benue State, Nigeria. Before violence shattered their world, they thrived as farmers—growing food, raising livestock, and dreaming of a better future. That dream was stolen when bandit and terrorist attacks forced them to abandon their village, leaving behind their home, land, and everything familiar.
Sadly, Joseph’s family is just one among millions. Since 2009, the farmer–herder conflict in Nigeria has killed more than 20,000 people and displaced over 2 million (UNHCR Nigeria). In Benue, where up to 80% of people rely on agriculture, the economic devastation is complete: farms are deserted, livestock are slaughtered, and hunger is rampant.

Benue State is at the centre of one of Nigeria’s worst humanitarian crises. According to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), repeated outbreaks of violence have devastated communities, forcing families to flee with only the clothes they are wearing. In the camps, scarcity is the norm. The majority of internally displaced households report skipping meals and reducing food portions because of acute shortages.
This is not just a problem for today—it threatens the future of an entire generation. Without swift intervention, children will suffer lifelong consequences from malnutrition and psychological trauma. Parents, who once provided for their families, are now dependent on humanitarian aid for survival.

Emergency Response: Saving Lives in Benue’s IDP Camps
The situation in Benue State has reached a breaking point, with thousands of families trapped in a cycle of displacement and deprivation. UN OCHA has classified parts of Nigeria as facing a severe humanitarian emergency, noting that over 800,000 people are internally displaced in Benue alone. These individuals are living in overcrowded camps, struggling to access basic necessities like food, water, and healthcare.
Mothers are making impossible choices every day: do they spend what little money they have on food, or on medicine for a sick child? Do they eat today or save what little they have for tomorrow? The suffering is immense, but it is not inevitable. With timely intervention, lives can be saved and futures restored.
Our emergency project brings vital relief to those who need it most.
