Springs 2019 Update from ABCS AND RICE!

By Sharon Terada | Board Member, ABCS AND RICE CANADA

Friendly Faces!
Friendly Faces!

We wanted to thank you once again for your kind donations to our school which feeds and educates more than 220 students!

Thanks to your generosity, we have so much news.  Because of an increased number of our high school students, we were happy to triple the size of our night classes.  These students are getting the quality English language education they deserve.

We are proud to announce that we have our first female graduate to be accepted into an agricultural engineering program at Mean Chey University.  You helped her to achieve this!

Without you, none of our students would have been able to attend school, let alone have enough food to eat.

One of our teachers attended the CamTESOL conference  in Phnom Penh in February. Continued teacher development is so important for our students.

We have new friends from Belgium!  Since January we have welcomed 8 Belgian university students who are studying education.  These young teaching interns are developing lessons and observing our teachers. We have now begun to install new classrooms and are accepting enrollment for more students, thanks to the help of you and these Belgian students!

During our intake interviews a few weeks ago,  we met a mother and her young son who have been sleeping on the concrete outside a local hospital.  They collected water bottles during the day in order to afford food to eat. This young boy has never attended school.  Within minutes of meeting with ABCS AND RICE he has been accepted to our school, we found his mother a job and a room to live  which they can now afford.  Thanks to you, this boy will be educated, will eat two hot meals a day at ABCS AND RICE, and will be taking rice home for his mother!!!!

We have also built a strong relationship with the Canadian Executive Service Organization, an international development charity.  Their volunteer advisors will assist us as we continue to achieve our goals of feeding and educating some of the most needy children in Cambodia.

Finally, in February, we partnered once again with MindBe Education, an organization which is dedicated to improving the wellbeing of parents, teachers and students.  We also spoke at the the Mindful Kids Peace Summit.

All of our good news is thanks to the generosity of donors like you.  You are permanently improving the lives of hundreds of children and their families in Cambodia.

Have a wonderful day!

Another great smile!
