Food for IDPs in Kayah State

In the three years since the military coup in 2021, people's suffering has steadily increased. In the conflict areas, which are bombed from the air by the military almost daily, many people are fleeing from the military in their own country. Many of these families depend on aid because they no longer have enough to eat. Due to the decline in the currency's value, food has become unaffordable for many families. Medications are almost unaffordable. Hospitals are often inaccessible, and children usually suffer from malnutrition, with the result that many of the children have little or no immune system and are susceptible to any disease. They are at their physical and mental limits. They had to leave everything they held dear behind and often fled their homes more than once with their families. This situation is unbearable for children.

Thanks to all our donors, we and our partner organization can support the most vulnerable families, i.e. families with many children, pregnant women, the elderly, and disabled persons with food parcels. We organize school meals for children, finance school materials, and regular health checks for children through a mobile clinic. We want to help reduce the risk of malnutrition among children. By attending school or kindergarten regularly, we promote the children's education and development.

To continue this work, we urgently need help so that we can continue to be there for the people in this conflict area and show them that they have not been forgotten. That the children there can believe that they too have a future.

Things are not getting any better in Myanmar. The country and its people are sinking into chaos and there is no end in sight. The military has probably lost large parts of the country to the rebel armies.
The civilian population is suffering greatly from the fighting. As the fighting is also taking place in densely populated areas, around one million people have had to leave their homes since the rebel offensive began in October. According to the United Nations, there are a total of more than three million internally displaced persons in the country, which has a population of around 56 million. (Spiegel online)
Because the health system has collapsed and food supplies are scarce, 18.6 million people are also dependent on aid. Last year, the number of people in need of help rose by one million (Die Zeit online).
We at Project Burma are still trying to provide for the people in our projects as best we can in this situation. Thanks to all donors who continue to support us and thus make our work possible in the first place.

Together with our local partner, we continue to support the internally displaced people with food, fresh water, and medicine. Children, pregnant women, and elderly people in particular need help. Among other things, we also support 115 children in 5 kindergartens in 5 villages. So that at least some children have a reasonably safe place to play and learn. Here, too, the children receive a regular lunch, which is prepared by the teachers.
