The Pay Off!

By Christina Buens | Intern, PR & Publications Team

Our Star Student
Our Star Student

Years of hard work finally begins to pay off! Our very first batch of students has done an excelling job in the very first public exam in their life. We are overwhelmed with joy for the way our children are making us proud. We pray and believe that they would go a long way and we promise to work harder to make that happen.

Our Star Student

Lelin  is one of our brightest JAAGO students and made us proud with his extraordinary achievement in PEC exam with a perfect GPA and Scholarship from the Government of Bangladesh. Lelin who already was our student’s spotlight in September 2012 is continuing his way of success and achievements. He didn’t think that he would perform in the exams so well: “It was a surprise for me. I tried so hard. My parents, friends and teachers helped me. The teachers even used innovative teaching methods for us – like model tests”. Lelin’s father is a rickshaw puller, he continues: “I still want to be an engineer, a Marine Engineer and to work for the Bangladeshi Navy. And I’m thankful that JAAGO has given me the opportunity to aim for that”.

Primary Education Completion Examination (PEC) success

Most of JAAGO’s students live in tiny rooms which they share with their parents and siblings. Only few have the privilege to have a calm space for preparing school lessons or even a proper desk for the children to study at. But nevertheless the JAAGO children are strong and confident individuals: The JAAGO 3rd graders recently reached a 100% pass rate at PEC Examinations English version hosted by the NCTB.

The students were tested in Bengali, English, Mathematics, Islam & Moral Education, Bangladesh & Global Studies as well as Elementary Science. While there was a 100% pass rate, the majority even scored a perfect GPA (grade point average). The successful passing the PEC examination has gotten the JAAGO students a 5 years of schooling certification which is nationally recognized. The good grades earned by the students also show that JAAGO works very hard to maintain a quality English Medium Education for its students.

Delicious Treats and Essentials

The three companies Frutika, Delta Insurance Ltd and Unilever Ltd. surprised the JAAGO children with bearing gifts. Frutika a concern of the ‘Akij Food & Beverage Ltd.’ hosted an elaborate lunch party for 500 students of the JAAGO Rayer Bazar Branch. The JAAGO students loved it: All the colorful decorations and balloons transformed the JAAGO playground into a magic wonderland.

Delta Insurance delivered and its Director, Mr. Zihad Rahman, personally distributed boxes of assorted Danish Biscuits amongst the students of the JAAGO Foundation, Rayer Bazar Branch. The children were visibly excited to run back home and open their beautifully decorated gift boxes filled with wholesome goodness.

Unilever Bangladesh Ltd. also has made a generous donation of a six month stock of necessary hygiene products to be distributed amongst the students of JAAGO schools nationwide. Providing hygiene products to the JAAGO students is one of the fundamental projects of the JAAGO Foundation because JAAGO wants to protect its students and their families from diarrhea, fever, food poisoning and many other diseases. That’s why JAAGO always provides a month long supply of hygiene items like toothpaste and -brush, soap, shampoo and detergent to the students.

International Mother Language Day 2014 (21st February)

The 21st February is the International Mother Language Day. To every Bangla or Bengali speaking person around the world, the 21st of February means an emotional mix of glory and grief. On that very day, 62 years ago, blood was spilled to protect the right of speaking in one's mother language. The date represents the day in 1952 when students from different educational institutions demonstrating for recognition of their Bengali language, were shot and killed by police in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Bangladesh is the only nation that fought to protect its language.

The JAAGO branches from Children from the Rayer Bazar, Chittagong, Gazipur, Bandarban, Gaibandha as well as Rajshahi celebrated the International Mother Language Day with the students and showed respect by giving one minute of silence as well as by giving flowers to the Shaheed Minar. Before the children learned about the meaning of that special day and the Bengali language. The exciting day was followed by an art competition and cultural program for the children.

U.S. Soccer stars at JAAGO

On two different days, the renowned U.S. soccer players Linda Hamilton who is also the winner of the first Women’s World Cup, and Tony Sanneh visited JAAGO foundation. They taught the students how to play soccer and together with the US Embassy they donated footballs and T-Shirts to JAAGO’s students who were full of excitement.

Dhonnobad – Thank You!

Last but not least we want to thank you, our sponsors and supporters, affectionate for walking the long way of building an illiteracy free Bangladesh with ‘Access to Quality Education for ALL’ with us. Your contribution can make the difference to lives of children like Lelin’s. Under our ‘Sponsor a Child’ program you can make a monthly contribution of only a minimum amount of USD $20 and so will be the educational expenses of your sponsored child and be part of the JAAGO family. Thank you once again for being there!
